Young Voices is recruiting talented individuals that will work full-time at our organization while participating in the Charles Koch Institute’s Media and Journalism Fellowship Program.  This program will provide a year of continuing education for creative professionals in media and journalism who are passionate about fostering a free press in society. Below are the open roles:

Managing Editor

Young Voices provides media outlets around the world with access to the best aspiring libertarian journalists and policy analysts under 30. We give the Millennial generation a voice by providing in-depth editorial training to our 65+ Advocates from around the world.

Our Advocates have been featured on C-SPAN, ABC News, NPR, BBC, MTV, and Fox Business News. They have been published and interviewed in the New York Times, the Economist, Forbes, Yahoo News, AP, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, the Washington Examiner and many other publications.

We are currently looking for a managing editor to oversee our Advocate program.

The ideal candidate should have strong writing and editing skills and is interested in a career in policy, communications, and/or journalism. Responsibilities will include:

  • Following current events to pitch story ideas relevant to the latest news and policy issues
  • Editing Advocates’ op-eds with a focus on providing feedback to improve writing skills
  • Pitching Advocates’ op-eds to publications with the aim of building long-term media relationships
  • Holding Advocates responsible for regular article contributions (at least once every three months)
  • Developing writing training presentations to deliver to Advocates and other Millennial audiences
  • Supervise Young Voices’ Public Relations Manager and Social Media Manager

In addition to these duties, the editor will have free range to produce and pitch their own op-eds. As such, the ideal candidate should have an interest not only in developing their editing skills but also in promoting their own brand as a voice for liberty.

Young Voices incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in May 2016. As such, the Managing Editor should have a strong interest in working in a startup environment and playing a critical role in determining the organization’s success.

1-3 years of professional experience in communication and/or policy is encouraged for the role, but not required. Strong writing and editorial skills are a must. The Managing Editor will be regularly interacting with writers and media outlets on behalf of Young Voices, so strong communication skills are needed.

Public Relations Manager

Young Voices provides media outlets around the world with access to the best aspiring libertarian journalists and policy analysts under 30. We give the Millennial generation a voice by providing in-depth editorial training to our 65+ Advocates from around the world.

Our Advocates have been featured on C-SPAN, ABC News, NPR, BBC, MTV, and Fox Business News. They have been published and interviewed in the New York Times, the Economist, Forbes, Yahoo News, AP, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, the Washington Examiner and many other publications.

The ideal candidate should have strong writing and editing skills and is interested in a career in communications. Responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a public spokesperson for Young Voices on radio and TV
  • Pitching Advocates for radio and TV interviews with the aim of building long-term relationships
  • Preparing media training presentations to give to Advocates and youth audiences on clear communication in radio and TV interviews
  • Advising Advocates on their verbal communications skills with the aim of measurable improvement
  • Creatively brainstorming way to draw greater attention to Young Voices brand with the aim of conversions for additional Advocates and donors

In addition to these duties, the Public Relations Manager will have free range to produce and pitch their own op-eds. As such, the ideal candidate should have an interest not only in developing their editing skills but also in promoting their own brand as a voice for liberty.

Social Media Manager

Our Advocates have been featured on C-SPAN, ABC News, NPR, BBC, MTV, and Fox Business News. They have been published and interviewed in the New York Times, the Economist, Forbes, Yahoo News, AP, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, the Washington Examiner and many other publications.

The ideal candidate should have strong writing and editing skills and is interested in a career in communications. Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing Young Voices’ Facebook and Twitter presence with the aim of gaining conversions (i.e. more Advocates and donors)
  • Assessing future platforms for Young Voices to potentially invest in (e.g. Periscope, LinkedIn, Medium, Facebook Live, etc.)
  • Hosting Young Voices’ weekly podcast, available on iTunes
  • Writing Young Voices’ monthly newsletters
  • Advising Advocates on how to maximize the impressions of their articles and media appearances as well as their social media presence

In addition to these duties, the Social Media Manager will have free range to produce and pitch their own op-eds. As such, the ideal candidate should have an interest not only in developing their editing skills but also in promoting their own brand as a voice for liberty.
